My name is Valerie, and I am one of Robert’s nurses. Robert was born with a genetic disorder, resulting in a malformation of the brain, leaving him unable to walk or talk and prone to seizures. He also suffers with many respiratory issues but is always patient, even with very uncomfortable treatments.

As “Swifties”, we watch and listen to Taylor Swift daily. He loves football too and though Mom, Jen Herrada, says he’s a Cowboys fan, I think he’s rooting for the KC Chiefs these days. Robert is not only sweet and lovable, but he also has a great sense of humor and an infectious laugh! He has a younger sister whom he adores and who, despite being away at college, still makes him laugh over the phone, which brings us all joy.

All his nurses, past and present, love him and want to help him get his first car. For that very reason, we are launching this campaign on behalf of Robert and his parents. We are hoping to raise enough funds for a wheelchair accessible vehicle, such as the adapted Honda Odyssey, or the Toyota Sienna.

Robert takes a special bus to get to school but will be coming to his last year in 2025. Without an accessible vehicle, family outings are not possible and doctor appointments are very difficult and dangerous, as Robert is now too big for Dad to safely lift into a car. Needless to say, when car journeys are unavoidable, he and his father are at risk. Therefore, our goal is that Mom and Dad can safely bring Robert to and from doctors’ appointments, go on outings, and maybe even visit his sister at college.

With a wheelchair accessible vehicle, Robert will continue to learn and to live a life bigger than his disability and so we’re looking for 75,000 people who are grateful for their first car and for the freedom to get in the car and go, to donate $1 (plus the GoFundMe fee *14c).
