My name is Pam, I'm from Alberta, Canada. I'm raising money for my step-kids who live in the countryside of Jamaica just outside of Petersfield. They were in the direct path of Hurricane Melissa (Oct 28) and have lost everything. 3 homes were demolished, including homes they had inherited from their grandparents and uncle who moved overseas. Immediate needs besides some of their supplies will be food and water. After that will be clean up and salvaging what they can of their demolished homes. Windows, rooves, protection from the elements. God bless you for helping. Currently (Nov 1) there has been no aid that has arrived, no supplies, they have not seen any help coming.

Currently the kids have been working and studying (post-secondary) to survive day-by-day. Gabriel the youngest is still in High School (Petersfield), where many from the community are currently sheltering.

On behalf of them and myself, thank you, thank you, thank you for helping in their desperate time of need.

I lost contact with them the morning of the 28th and heard from them last night that they all survived. It was very scary and they are traumatized. Because they will not have internet, power or cell for a while they have to walk into the town to get in queue to contact loved ones. It's very devastating and will take a long time.

Nov 2 update - First video and pictures from the kids have started to come in. Two have stepped on nails (there's nails and glass everywhere) and have been able to get tentnus shots. People are already fighting each other for food and water. They kids will leave the area and look for a place to rent. Westmoreland was flattened. They are still in a bit of shock and can't believe everything is gone.
