3 weeks ago, my sister and best friend, Stacey, was diagnosed with a rare form of breast cancer. One that is very aggressive and only affects 10-15% of all breast cancer diagnosed. Our family is still reeling from the news, but we are also going to do everything in our power to help her fight this horrible disease!
She will be starting her first round of Chemo on 7/18. Then continue on for months, going every week. Right now, she feels great, is strong and ready to get this infestation out of her body! While she will continue to work full time, there will be a point where she may physically and emotionally not be able to continue 40 hours a week.
After her second or third Chemo treatment, the doctors told her that she will start to lose her hair. (Trust me, there is a lot to lose!!) Ha!
I know how devastating it will be for her, even if it does sound trite. I would feel the same way. I am trying to raise funds for 2 purposes: To get a natural, real haired wig made for her and to also help the family,
(a husband and 4 boys), with expenses while she cuts back on her work schedule. Things like grocery and meal delivery services, utility payments, medical co-pays and balances, etc. It's hard to even know what something like this looks like.
The wig I'm thinking of getting her will be made from family hair donations. It will cost anywhere from 800.00-3000.00. Not that she is requiring this type of expensive Primo wig, it's what I would like her to have. This would take 8-10 weeks once the hair is received by Compassionate Creations. So time for funding the wig will be short! But she will be wearing it possibly 12 months and beyond.
I'm not one to reach out in this manner lightly. I realize everyone has their own lives and hardships, but I'm making an exception for one of the most important people in my life that I want to help through this scary, infuriating, rough as hell fight that's before her.
No donation is too small and I want to say Thank You upfront, for caring and for at least keeping her and her family in thoughts for courage and strength.
