Husband, brother, uncle, friend. No matter what your relationship is to him, Bobby Shaw needs your help. This is difficult for us to do but we are reaching out to you to ask for your assistance. On December 7th, Bobby had surgery to repair an abdominal aortic aneurysm. By all accounts, the surgery went very well and it wasn’t until several hours later that they realized that there had been a complication. There is a very slight chance that patients may suffer some paralysis in their legs due to injury/lack of blood flow to the spinal cord. We don’t really understand the medical explanation for why this happened; it is an extremely rare complication of this procedure. Bobby was initially unable to stand or walk. On December 19th, he was transferred to Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital in Woburn. He has had some setbacks since arriving but is slowly making progress and is gaining limited mobility in his legs. He is undergoing extensive physical therapy to help him recover from this. He will be there for another week or so and will then have to transition to outpatient therapy. We know that this is going to be expensive but we need to do whatever we can to help him get the best treatment so that he can have the best possible outcome.
Bobby needs us all – despite his gruff exterior, he has a heart of gold and would give you the shirt off his back. And he has. Many of you know how he started the Arlington Children’s Fund to raise money for kids in Arlington and how many of them benefitted at Christmastime and throughout the year for several years. We’re hoping to be able to do the same for him now. Any amount you could give would be most appreciated. If you are not comfortable donating online, you can send your donation (made out to Donna Shaw) to: Cambridge Savings Bank – 626 Massachusetts Avenue - Arlington, MA 02476 - attention Kathleen Darcy.
Please keep Bobby in your prayers. And keep your fingers crossed for as successful a recovery as possible.
Gratefully,
Mint Panam (wife), The Shaw Family, Lynne Lowenstein (friend)
