Hi my name is Hazel, and I am setting up this go fund me on behalf of my entire/extended family members and friends who have been asking how they can help my parents, specifically for my mom who is battling Lung Cancer (Stage 4 Non-Small Cell Adenocarcinoma) currently.
You see, my parents are the kind of people that never ask for help from anyone, but yet are always helping others, whether it’s donating to hospital organizations, giving of themselves to help others fix their cars, watching me and my brothers kids, to sending out boxes full of clothes and food abroad to the Philippines to a non for profit orphanage for children and babies. Even in their times of struggle, my parents have always tried their best and still do to help those around them. So this time around, we’d like to be able to help them in their time of need; and we hope that you can help us do so by considering donating however much you can to help offset some financial costs that have come and will come their way. And for those that can’t donate monetarily; we ask for your prayers for my mom on her cancer journey.
*This is my mom’s story….
My mom was diagnosed officially on June 3, 2021 at age 55 years old with Stage 3 Lung Cancer (Non-Small Cell Adenocarcinoma) after coincidentally catching COVID in Feb. 2021 from work. She had no symptoms of the effects of COVID, which we thought, how lucky. 2 weeks later she started coughing up bright red blood and in she went to Emergency to get checked out. What seemed like months of checking and 2 biopsies later, we were given the devastating news of Cancer, specifically lung cancer. It was a shock, especially for my mom who has NEVER smoked in her life. But the things is, what we’ve come to learn is that almost 80% of people who are diagnosed with lung cancer don’t smoke. And my mom was one of the unlucky ones. Further testing was done to see the extent of her cancer, and a PET scan done in July 2021 confirmed that she had some metastases in her right leg, and just like that; she was now Stage 4 Lung Cancer (Non-Small Cell Lung Adenocarcinoma). Her treatment started officially on Sept. 2021. After multiple treatments and what seemed like finally the right clinical trial….we found out on March 13, 2023 that my mom no longer would be a candidate for this due to her tumor in her right lung growing in size. So where did this leave us, well after a month and a half of researching and coordinating with an international coordinator, my mom is now being seen in the United States at the The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. And what an amazing center full of potential treatment options, but….
Now, being an international patient, my mom and dad have had to pay out of pocket for all of my mom’s costs for her cancer care. This includes the consultation, to diagnostic imaging being done, to medications and anything else that may come up in the future. My parents who have spent all these years after immigrating to Canada in 1995 working away and making sacrifices to have money for the future have now given all of their savings and retirement funds to help prolong/save my mom’s life. And of course, who wouldn’t after all this is the love of my dad’s life. So here we are…. My parents are in the process of selling their house to continue with upcoming costs, and so I ask that you please consider helping donate to maybe help lessen the financial burden my mom and dad are having to experience.
With my warmest gratitude, I’d like to say thank you on behalf of my entire family in advance for the prayers and generosity you have shown to my parents, but especially for my mom who is the epitome of a cancer warrior.
*Please note any funds that do not end up being used for my mom’s cancer care will be donated to a charity/organization.
