Emily has been through so much this past month. On May 16, 2020, Emily was admitted to the ICU at Altru for respiratory distress. She was intubated and unresponsive for roughly 11 days. Our prayers were answered when she woke up and was able to communicate with her eyes/eyebrows! She had developed compartment syndrome in her right (dominant) arm due to laying on it for many hours as she was unresponsive at her home in Stephen. Unfortunately, the tissue in her arm began to die and they had no choice but to amputate just above the elbow (5/27/2020). She was able to breathe on her own at this time and the ventilator was extubated. She also was diagnosed with a brain injury due to some swelling. Once Emily was strong enough (6/5/2020), she was transferred to Sanford in Fargo where she began her Rehabilitation program. She has been working very hard over the past couple of weeks, working with speech, occupational and physical therapy. She is able to come home tomorrow (Thursday)! She will continue to work her therapies and recovery through outpatient along with some possible in home care. Your donation would be used for medical expenses/hospital bills, a prosthetic and help with lost income. Emily is one amazing woman and quite the miracle!!
