Hi, my name is Shanika Malcolm, and I live in Toronto, Canada. I am raising funds to help my widowed grandmother and her community, who were deeply affected by Hurricane Melissa.
This cause is close to my heart. My mother, Barbara, grew up in this community, and as children, we spent many joyful holidays there. I have vivid memories of my grandmother always feeding others, sharing whatever she had, and opening her home to anyone in need.
The people in her community are warm, caring, and deeply connected. My grandmother is loved and respected by many, which makes it even more meaningful for me to support the rebuilding efforts.
What Happened
Hurricane Melissa caused devastating damage — homes were destroyed, and falling trees damaged roofs, windows, and structures. Many families, including my grandmother, lost their household items and personal belongings.
They are now homeless and urgently need help to rebuild and restore their lives.
My Grandmother’s Health
My grandmother suffers from dementia, hypertension, diabetes, and other health issues. She relies heavily on family members who themselves were impacted by the storm and are struggling to cope with the aftermath.
Despite her own challenges, she has always been the first to help anyone in need. Now, it’s our turn to help her.
How Your Donation Will Help
Funds raised will go toward essential items needed for safety, shelter, and daily living, including:
• Water pump for clean household water
• Water sanitation/purification system
• Generators for electricity and internet (for communication and safety)
• Building materials
• Furniture and appliances
No amount is too small — every contribution will make a meaningful difference.
Thank You
Thank you for taking the time to read and for considering a donation. Your support will help my grandmother and her community rebuild, recover, and return to a sense of normalcy. ❤️
