Long Poetic Story:
Hello to the people, to the friends new and old, this is a story of forgiveness for the brave and the bold. It begins with a dream and a mission to serve, to build a camp called HORIZON where joyous memories unfold. I Traveled from Texas to a place many call home, pursuing my passion to build, a destination where the wild things roam. I landed on Playa with love in my heart, it was Tuesday for Build Week and i was ecstatic to start!
Max, Aaron and Brad where the first people i met, three Leaders to whom i was bonded for all the time well spent. We shared laughs and skills as we worked through the dust, on a mission to serve that we built upon trust. We cared for each other needs, for water and food, survival in a desert can be unbearably crude.
As campers collected in our dusty little home, our shared efforts magnified as our camp began to form. We all worked late on that fateful Friday night, we all could see its completion, it was near in sight. We gathered for dinner, my last evening camp family meal, cut short for the last push to make progress seam surreal. When we could work no more and some main tasks were complete, i hopped on my bike for a leisurely sweep. It was the first art piece i found and it was climb able too, excited and tired i began to make a move. I made it to the landing and thought "i can make it to the top!" Little did i know it would be my last drop...
With a rumble and a tumble i was unconscious before the fall, a gash and a bash saved me afterall. Limp as fell, a ragdoll to the ground, sirens seeking a body lay dormant all round. In brief moments of clarity i spoke a name and date of birth, before being hauled in a helicopter destined to leave earth. Touch down in Reno to the Emergency Room i went, for
X-ray's and CAT scans across my body they swept.
With staples, a cast, no money or proof of ID, I held gratitude in my heart and resented no thing. On a mission to return to where it all began, i was destined for Playa with no route and no plan. "Free taxi voucher to Grand Sierra Resort", the social worker said, where burners alike may lead to the road ahead. Compassionate people spoke as i hobbled afoot, sharing concerns of my folly and cash for some food. I thought i had, as i stumbled around "my physical therapy starts today!" Humbled and laughing out loud.
With my belly full, spirit renewed and invigorated to groove, i began to ask question to find my next move. This lady i found with direction she spoke "to the airport you must go!"
and on the free shuttle i awoke.
"I'm a lucky guy" i thought as i manifested my path, to return me to the Playa on the day before my last. With the shuttle ride now over i sought burner express volunteers, they connected me with RAMPART and proof why i was here. Luckily they held back on last bus out of town, to catch a ride, oh my.. i was finally Playa bound!
I have arrived, exausted and rolling in at dusk, with one more shuttle and a golf cart ride, rest was a must. At camp i met Max and he just checked my tent, concerned for my well-being and wondering where i went. He brought food for my needs after i shuffled to my cot, for one last meal on this day never to be forgot.
