Hi everyone! My name is Kamali Thompson and my brother is Khalil Thompson. We have had the honor of representing team USA on the U.S fencing team for many years. In honor of Bergen County's Dr. Kamali Thompson Day (Aug 18th) and Khalil Thompson Day (Aug 19th) we are hosting a fundraiser for the Play Like a Girl organization.
61% of high school girls across the US who played a sport held an average grade point average (GPA) of 4.0. 94% of women in C-Suite positions have a background in sport. Despite these facts, by age 14, many girls are dropping out of sports at two times the rate of boys.
STEM (Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) occupations pay more than double that of non-STEM occupations. Yet women are vastly underrepresented in the field, making up only 28% of the STEM workforce.
Play Like a Girl give girls the opportunity to see themselves in inspiring women and help map their path to a rewarding career in STEM.
-Their alumni major in computer science, or related fields, at a rate 7 times the U.S. average.
-They have educated more than 50,000 girls nationwide through camps, after-school clubs and sports clinics.
-50% of their participants come from historically-underrepresented groups.
Donate to help this organization continue to inspire the next generation of phenomenal athletes and leaders in STEM!
