Hi my name is Greg Hobbs (oneeyedflyguy). Let me tell you a little about why I'm needing help. I started playing disc golf just about 20yrs ago. 10yrs ago my left eyes vision started looking like the tint on your front windshield; where is goes from dark to light. And if I would close my right eye; door frames would look like a triangle. Seven days later my left was removed. I lost my left eye to a rare form of eye cancer called Ocular Melanoma. I was one of the lucky ones; half the people that are diagnosed with OM die. I now use disc golf to help work on my depth perception with the different distances and the different terrains. It's really has helped me. It has also helps me spread the word about this rare disease and prevent others from going through what I had to.
Last year I said "let's do this" I'm not gonna let this diagnoses stop me from doing what I want to do. Which is to play competitive disc golf and do it well. And show others that are diagnosed with Ocular Melanoma you can still accomplish your dreams. I mean look at me; a guy with bad depth perception playing a game of distances.
My hard work is paying off. Out of the 6 tournaments I've competed in this year Ive placed 1st two times, 2nd two times, a 3rd and a 4th. The one I was most excited about is the NADGT(National Amatuer Discgolf Tournament). You have to place in the top 2 to get an invite for the NADGT Championships in Austin, TX in November the 1st-4th. Which is the premiere amateur discgolf tourney.
I placed 2nd and got an INVITE!! I'm so excited! It's a awesome opportunity!! And it's also says never give up on your dreams even though life throws you a curve ball.
With that being said and times being tough. This is why I am asking for help.
All the funds raised will be used to help with the entry fee, travel and lodging expenses. And will help me continue this dream.
Any amount you can contribute is greatly appreciated. I know it's tough times for all. If you don't have anything to spare please consider sharing this with family and friends. THANK YOU!!
