Play for Pixie - Veterinary Care for Those in Need

Tax deductible
In December, I faced one of my worst nightmares when seemingly out of nowhere, my beloved cat Pixie fell ill. In a matter of days, my healthy, happy cat’s health quickly deteriorated. After our initial trip to the emergency vet and an overnight stay, she was expected to make a full recovery — but unfortunately, that prognosis was not correct. Over the next 4 days, we were in and out of the emergency vet running tests, trying different medications, and providing supportive care to my now gravely ill cat. During those incredibly difficult days, running on no sleep, I constantly had to make decisions about her care. These decisions were costly even though the hospital staff worked with me to trim all possible fat off of a quickly growing hospital bill. While I took the financial hits and fought to help her, I remember feeling so incredibly lucky that I had an emergency fund and had the ability to provide the best possible care for her.

Unfortunately, after a challenging handful of days, Pixie let me know that it was time to go. Losing my best friend was devastating, but I was able to find some peace in the fact that I had done everything possible to make sure she was comfortable and taken care of in her last few days. Pixie had been with me since I had gotten my first apartment out of college, through moves, job changes, relationships, and even the pandemic lockdown. I could not imagine how much worse the grief would have felt if I had not been able to afford to provide her the care she needed to have a shot at recovery.

After Pixie passed, I decided I wanted to make a difference for those who might be facing what I had gone through without an emergency fund of their own, and came across the FACE Foundation. The FACE Foundation provides financial support to those in San Diego who are facing financial hardships and may not be able to afford life-saving care for their pets, and partners with nearly 200 veterinary hospitals, including the phenomenal hospital where Pixie received her care. I may have lost Pixie, but I can think of no better way to honor her beautiful life than by ensuring other families do not have to.

I aim to raise $1500 in donations directly for the FACE Foundation in the hopes that I can save several other beloved pets, even if I could not save mine.

I will be hosting 3 days of charity streams on Twitch to help raise donations and awareness for the FACE Foundation. Join us in celebrating Pixie's life and supporting the cause.
