"Play Date" A Short Film
Donation protected
Hi! My name is Bria, and I’m a filmmaker located in Philadelphia, PA. I am the writer and director of “Play Date,” an independent coming-of-age short film. I recently graduated with a BFA from the University of the Arts, and I’m thrilled to share my latest project (and directorial debut (: )! We have an entirely LGBTQ+ crew of emerging artists entering the industry, and your support would be so helpful!
The film follows Nora, a timid but strong young woman who struggles with her self-worth. As she prepares for a date with her boyfriend Lucas, she’s reminded of childhood memories and what her estranged best friend Kendall taught her about love. We see a glimpse of Nora at two defining moments in her life: at 11 years old, learning how to be treated, and at 22, stuck in a relationship she wants out of. The story explores themes of love vs. abuse, loss of childhood innocence, and the toxicity of gender norms within relationships.
This production is completely independent and is slated to be distributed to festivals in the upcoming year, as well as being an artistic milestone for my portfolio as a filmmaker. All funds will be used for the film's production, with absolutely no personal monetary gain for myself, and all unused proceeds will be donated to local women’s shelters and LGBTQ+ charities.
We’ve recently wrapped production, and I’d love to be able to make back what was spent and increase the budget for post-production as well! Your financial support will go towards transportation costs, catering, cast & and crew compensation, and funding film festival applications. And if you’re unable to donate, simply sharing the film/fundraiser is so greatly appreciated. (Donors will also be thanked in the credits of the film!)
Thank you so much for reading, sharing and donating. I can’t wait to be able to finally share this film with you! Check back in for more updates soon :)
