External stair lift and ramp for Nic
Donation protected
Change to the plan we have had the builder visit and we are going to install an external stair lift this is a more affordable alternative although still costly as we need to open up the back wall, install a gradual concrete ramp due to 4ft drop and then install the stair lift.
thank you all for your generosity it means a lot to our family.
Nic’s story
Nic has served in the Army for the last 29yrs and has completed multiple operational tours.
Nic was due to go away to Oman in Jan 2021 but unfortunately contracted Covid 19 the day before, Nic became extremely unwell within days and ended up in Bath RUH in a coma for several weeks, on waking he had many complex problems and was diagnosed with Peripheral Neuropathy which causes extreme nerve pain and no feeling to his hands and feet.
Nic worked hard with rehabilitation to get back to work within the Army even though he was in extreme pain and has no feeling in his hands and feet!
But unfortunately in Jan 2023 Complex Military & ICU PTSD set in and Nic started to get stroke like symptoms and horrendous nightmares every night, forcing him to go off work sick, he then lost the ability to speak in June 2023 and was diagnosed with FND (Functional Neurological Disorder) he lost control of his bladder and started to experience seizures daily, Nic started to regain his voice in May 2024 but lost the use of his legs so now requires a wheelchair to be able to get around and 24hrs care from carers and family.
Nic has approximately 6 seizures a day now but requires a lift to be able to get in and out of our property as at present Nic is having to go onto his bottom to get out of our home.
Nic is now being medically discharged from the Army after spending many years carving out his career and going through the ranks to become a Captain this is having a massive impact on his mental wellbeing as his career was his a massive piece of his life.
Unfortunately the platform lift is not something the MOD or local authority will fund.
I will be approaching Military and Civilian Charities also xx
Any help would be greatly appreciated as it is a very expensive piece of equipment to allow Nic to independently and safely access the community.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story x
