Hi, my name is Kaitlin. The dog in the photos name is Togo. He's a Siberian/Alaskan Husky and is 8 1/2 years old. On Wednesday night (July 2nd, 2025), he had an upset stomach and refused to eat or drink water.

The next day while getting up to get water, he peed and there was a large amount of blood in his urine. We rushed him to the vet as he continued to periodically pee blood.

They concluded that his red blood cells are attacking themselves and his liver is inflamed. He is completely jaundiced and lethargic and very unlike himself (no howling, no ears perking up, etc). He was rushed for an emergency blood transfusion and he continues to lose blood.

The vet is now recommending plasmapheresis (cleaning his blood of the antibodies that are attacking his red blood cells — also known as a plasma exchange). This will cost upwards of 15,000$ CAD. My family and I would do anything for our dogs and care for them like they're the most important beings in our lives. This came out of nowhere. Not even two days prior he was acting completely like himself.
