"Plants" Short Film

Camille and Mike (that's us!) met in Prague, where we were randomly assigned as roommates during our study abroad program. We bonded quickly and spent the following months going on countless adventures and spending hours talking about our ideas. We stayed in touch after our program, supporting one another through our respective projects over the past couple of years. We had always wanted to collaborate on something, but had yet to find that special idea.
Camille’s short film A Favor was screened at a cannabis film festival last November. Mike, who so kindly attended the screening, and Camille noted the lack of proper representation of the type of women who smoke pot in the films presented. We became motivated by the idea of telling the story of a woman relationship to weed, free of male fantasy and idealization.
Plants is the story of Amy, a dealer in NYC, who is strong, cool, and, obviously, loves a good toke. She makes a stop at a new client’s place before heading home for the night. However, her trusty referral system has failed her as she deals with a rookie customer.
We co-wrote the script and are splitting up the roles of producer and director. We have our eyes on some talented crew members that will help us tell this story.
We need help funding this film to make it as successful as we know it can be. We will use those funds to pay our actors, get quality equipment, and help with post-production. We will be submitting this film to numerous film festivals and film labs so that it can reach the widest audience possible.
We’re really excited about the media’s shift towards showing cannabis in a more positive light. We want to be part of this movement and we’re really excited about this project. We hope you are too!
