We are a group of old school friends (collectively known as the Boyo's!) & this summer we went to Likoma, an island on Lake Malawi in East Africa. We had an incredible adventure & met some wonderful people along the way but we also witnessed extreme poverty. We played football with kids who had no shoes, there are families that still go to bed hungry, living conditions are extremely basic & farming is hard as the soil is poor & rocky.
We were acutely aware whilst there of the economic gap between us, the tourists, and the daily economic struggles of the local community. We decided once we were home we would set set up the Boyo Foundation as our way of giving back to this beautiful place & it's people.
Our aim is to support the community in a variety of ways. We plan to plant over a thousand mango trees from seed along the main roads providing shade & food security for future generations & to help fund litter picking as this has become a critical problem across the island due to the lack of municipal infrastructure . We also hope to supply the local football teams with basic equipment including goal posts, balls, boots & kit. And as we are all huge fans of the gym & calisthenics we actually built our own gym using local resources when we were there & this is something we would like to continue as a project building "Boyo gyms" for the locals.
This weekend, Fox Perry, will be running an epic 100 miles which is not far shy of 4 marathons to kickstart our project!! We would really appreciate your support & all donations small & large are very gratefully received.
Thank you
The Boyo Foundation
