Greetings! I’m Ayanna “Yani” Mabry, also known as AM Creatrix.

I’m a visual artist, educator, and creative researcher whose work is rooted in intuition, movement, symbolism, and reflection. My practice explores how inner landscapes mirror the natural world, using art as both a research method and a ritual process.

I was recently accepted into the ArteSumapaz Artist Residency in Colombía, where I’ll be participating in a month-long residency next summer in June. This will be my very first artist residency, and I’m deeply grateful that it will take place in an entirely different country. During this time, I will not be working, allowing me to fully immerse myself in the residency experience without divided focus.

ÁrteSumapaz is a community-centered residency that emphasizes cultural exchange, reflection, and connection to the land. While in residence, I’ll have the opportunity to engage with Colombian culture, commune with artists from all over the world, and draw inspiration from the surrounding mountain landscapes. This environment will play a major role in breathing new life into the next era of my artistry, as personal introspection and reflection continue to guide my creative research.

Throughout the residency, I plan to experiment with mixed media techniques and expand beyond painting, allowing space for exploration, material play, and new forms of expression. The cultural enrichment, community dialogue, and dedicated creative time will deeply inform my evolving practice.

I’m raising $3,500 to help cover travel, housing, and essential monthly expenses while I’m in residence. Any financial contribution will be incredibly helpful in easing financial strain while I’m out of the country and allowing me to be fully present in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
