Amazon Medicinal Plant Restoration

An unfortunate consequence of medicinal success...

Living in the  Amazon forest, we are witness to countless people coming to our country of Peru to find cures for illness and diseases of all types: physical, psychological, and spiritual. Peruvians and the people of South America have shared in their knowledge of plants and those who have come for help have found the truth in their abilities. An unfortunate consequence of such success in helping so many others has been the rather common exploitation of many plants by those seeking to prioritize profit over care and management of both the plants and the people who dedicate their life to practicing the art of healing. The environmental impact of such practices is beginning to become apparent.

The search for many medicinal plants has begun to extend deeper into primary forest due to their growing scarcity and the many years needed for maturity. There doesn’t seem to be a majority’s concern over the sustainability of such practices and there is very little planting and restoration occuring.  One such atrocity is with Ayahuasca vines. Not only are they harvested in a manner that kills the vine by irreponsibly taking it from the earth, but also consists of destroying the trees which the vine inhabited.

Our dedication to sustainability and education
Located in Tarapoto ,Peru, Tambo Ilusión is 18 hectares of registered conservation land that operates as a rustic yoga and dietary retreat center.

We have recently committed Tambo Ilusión to the planting and farming of many medicinal varieties. There are already many scattered species of medicinal/fruit plants and trees and we have recently made an investment in the purchase and maintenance for 150 more plants of a dozen or so varieties.

We wish to commit as much of the property as possible to continue growing the garden for the purpose of cultivation and, more importantly, as a green house to continue propagating young plants for cultivation on future sights.

Short term goals...
With your help, the first phase of our project is to extend our already growing garden by another 300 medicinal plants. The first few months of transplant are the most crucial as the jungle environment can be hostile to young growth. Weather conditions and animal life are the biggest threat to young plants, and care is needed around the clock to ensure their survival.  We will hire
2-3 personnel for the initial clearing, garden infrastructure, and planting work, and then retain one person who's sole responsibility would be to ensure proper care and survival of our investment over an 8-12 month period.

... and looking ahead
We continue to grow our connections with healers of old lineages and many express a desire to teach the use of many plant remedies. This passing generation holds an expansive but quickly dwindling wealth of medicinal plant knowledge. They are untrusting of the exploitation by pharmaceutical companies, but truly wish to find those willing to practice in a manner more respectful to the land and culture. Unfortunately, modernization has created a lack of interest in the majority of the next generation of the keepers of plant knowledge.

We further aim to provide facilities for elders and experts to present various workshops and seminars, covering a broad range of topics to include preparation techniques, sustainable practices, cultural sharings, and collaboration with those from outside of Peru looking for a venue to share their offerings. In addition we will become a hub for providing medicinal plants to other facilities looking to grow and sustain these vital living resources.

Gratitude to you and the plants!
If you're reading this, then likely you have participated in plant medicine ceremonies or know somene who has. In the majority of cases, it's also likely that your offering in no way supported the true wisdom keepers: the plants! We are here to usher forth a new era of plant medicine consciouness and ensure the availability of these great teachers and healers for those who will carry our legacies long after our bodies pass. We are eternally grateful for your support and inspiration. Thank you for taking the time to read about our mission, and any support you can offer, even if it's simply passing this message on through social media, is greatly appreciated. Infinite blessings upon you and all you lay eyes upon.
