Plant School is a 6-month herbalism and land stewardship course for Black, Indigenous, and racialized Peoples in Guelph, Ontario {dish with one spoon}, from May to October. This year, we received an overwhelming number of scholarship applications for Black, Indigenous and Palestinian students.
We run entirely on a grassroots basis with no funding, and we can only cover so many scholarships out of pocket.
We are asking for support for our scholarship fund to ensure the program remains accessible to those facing financial barriers without compromising the quality of education.
Why do we do this?
As our communities continue to deal with the health impacts of colonialism, displacement, and a collapsing and racist healthcare system, it is essential that we arm our people with tools for self-determined community care. Program facilitators have decades of experience working as healthcare providers, working to ensure people have access to effective, low-cost support.
Further, imperial wars and ongoing colonialism continue to ravage the land and its people. Bringing together communities to build relationships of trust, care and solidarity, rooted in care for the land, plays a vital role in laying the foundation for joint struggle.
