We are beyond excited to announce on Friday, October 18th at 11:15am, we get to adopt our daughter!!!! We can't wait to legally be able to do what we've done all along which is call her ours. In celebration and in lieu of adoption gifts, we are hosting a fundraising celebration on Saturday, Nov. 9th from 5-7:30pm at The Evergreen Community church (935 NE 33rd Ave. Portland, OR). And everyone is invited!!! We will have games, face painting, and a bounce house for kids. As well as food and drinks to share and opportunities to donate to our special initiative, Plant a Rose.
Around the same time that we brought home our Rose from the hospital 3 years ago, we were introduced to another Rose, a little girl who lives with her mother, Mary, in a small village in Tanzania. Mary works very hard but still wasn't able to pay for her daughter to start her school career and enter Kindergarten. Our church was given the opportunity to send funds to help Rose go to school.
Over the years, I have thought often about the other Rose. As we have journeyed with our Rose through the foster care system, trusting God with her life and ours, I have been reminded what a gift an opportunity for education, stability, and support really is. We can so easily take those for granted but they are not given for most people around the world.
On this occasion, as we commit our lives to our Rose, we would like to also commit to the other Rose and to her mother Mary. By committing to fund Rose' annual education expense we will relieve the stress of wondering if money for school will be available from year to year and give them peace of mind and hope as they count on all the benefits a sustained education will bring them. We are collecting funds to send the other Rose to school through primary, secondary and even into college.
