Plano Senior Booster Club: Help Our Speech & Debate Team

Hi all! On behalf of the Plano Senior Varsity Speech Team, the PSHS Speech & Debate Booster Club is organizing a community fundraiser to support our students this competitive season. Our team is immensely talented, excelling at various local, state, and national competitions and even placing 8th out of 302 schools at TFA State, Texas’ state tournament for speech and debate, earlier this month. Through this activity, we have seen our students flourish into polished speakers, incredible people, and amazing teammates. However, with the local season coming to a close, our team has moved into the national competition season, unable to front the costs of these major tournaments.

One of these competitions is NIETOC, or the National Individual Events Tournament of Champions, one of the country's most prestigious national tournaments for individual speech and debate events. NIETOC is incredibly selective, requiring all participants to qualify for the tournament by earning two bids, which can be received through exceptional achievement at qualifying NIETOC tournaments. As the culmination of a year of competition, NIETOC is a beautiful opportunity for our students to showcase their performances which they have been tirelessly working towards since August allowing them to be recognized on a national stage for their talents.

This year, Plano Senior is traveling to Kansas City, Missouri, from May 16th to 18th to compete at NIETOC. While this tournament is a unique chance for our students to share their voices, attending NIETOC has become prohibitively expensive for our team. Our students have been incredibly enthusiastic about competing in every way they can this season, but the cost of consistently participating in these national tournaments like NIETOC has become a barrier to the success of our students.

The entire mission of this activity is to give young adults a platform to spread their message, regardless of any outside force. Thus, we are reaching back out to the community that has given our students, and our team, so much for so many decades. With your help, our students will have the ability to live out their dreams without the barrier of financial insecurity.
