Help Support Anna’s journey of Recovery

Summary
Anna is a devoted mother, sister, daughter and friend who has always inspired others with her strength. After this devastating climbing accident in July, she now faces months, likely years —of rehabilitation, care and life-changing adaptation. We invite you to stand with Anna and her family as they navigate this long road to recovery.

What Happened
On July 25, 2025 , our beloved Anna suffered a devastating rock-climbing accident in Squamish, BC. She fell approx. 70ft, sustaining multiple fractures to both arms, her femur, critical spinal cord injuries at the C1 and T3–T4 level, and a traumatic brain injury.

She was emergency evacuated to Vancouver General Hospital in critical condition, her life teetering on a thread. She immediately underwent multiple life-saving surgeries and was closely cared for an entire month in ICU. Because of the severity of her spinal injuries, she required a tracheostomy to help her breathe and a gastrostomy tube to receive nutrition.

How She’s Doing Now
In true Anna spirit, she has shown remarkable resilience. She progressed from the ICU to the Spine step-down unit, and is now on the regular spinal floor, continuing her recovery. The medical team has said Anna is a living miracle to have survived her fall.

After nearly a month of silence, Anna is able to begin using her voice again with the help of a voice piece attached to her tracheostomy tube. Being able to talk with her again is a powerful reminder of her strength, determination, and hope for the days and months to come. Her long-term memory appears to be intact. Her short term memory and sense of time, place and events are impaired from her brain injury and hospitalization. We are hopeful for continued improvement.

At the start of Labor Day weekend, her 18yr old son Kodo came to VGH for a last visit before embarking for his first year at the University of British Columbia Okanagan. Anna’s embrace and radiant smile that day were the brightest we have seen since the accident. This bittersweet milestone—full of love, pride, and courage—underscores Anna’s strength as a mother, even as she faces her greatest challenge.

Anna’s healing journey ahead will be long, arduous, and uncertain—requiring months to years of rehabilitation, specialized care, and adaptive equipment support. Along with the physical, emotional and mental health challenges, the financial burden will be significant.

Your contributions will go directly toward Anna’s ongoing medical care, rehabilitation, adaptive equipment, and support for Kodo during this critical time.
