Hello, my name is Elliott and I will be getting gender affirming top surgery in June of this year! This surgery is the culmination of over 4 years of phone calls, waiting, doctor's appointments, and more waiting, to be on the path to feeling more at home in my body. It was hard to find photo's of myself that are front facing and show how my chest really looks, because I do all I can to make it an unnoticeable as possible when I take photos of myself. My chest is a constant source of discomfort and this top surgery will finally alleviate it.
While I am lucky to have the costs of the surgery covered by OHIP, there are a number of other costs that are part of the process. We are doing the best we can to handle everything financially, however it is difficult, and if we can get even a little bit of extra support, it would mean a lot.
Here is a breakdown of expected costs - our train tickets to Montreal and back are $587.58, there is a $55 medicine cost, the uber/lyft home from the train station after surgery will be about $60, my partner's food costs for the duration of our stay at the hotel are not covered by the clinic, so that is out of pocket for about 4 days worth of food. There will likely be some extra supplies needed to aid in my recovery, like wound dressing, medicine, comfort, and healing items. I am lucky to have a lot of vacation saved up that will cover 3 out of 4 weeks off work, and have short term disability as part of my benefits plan to help cover the last week, but that does not cover 100% of my wages.
If the goal is met or exceeded, and there are excess funds, I will happily donate a portion of those funds to a local LGBTQ plus organization, like the 519 in Toronto, something in York region, etc. I will clearly specify what that looks like if it comes to that, but a larger portion would be donated than kept, and if the portion is small, I would just donate all of it.
Any and all support is appreciated. I know there is a lot going on the in the world and a lot of people do not have extra to share, but sharing itself is helpful. Spreading the word to others is just as appreciated as donating.
Thank you in advance for your kindness and support. It means everything to me.
Let's get my teet's yeeted!
Love,
Elliott
