This is for our dear friend John Greenhaw who some of you may know and some may not. However, he has always been a pillar to our community with his generous donations and work with many charities thoughout the Pudget Sound. John has never been nor will he ever be the type to ask for help even in dire straights. So it is up to us, his family and friends, to assist John financially through what must seem to be the hardest thing anyone could go through.
In 2016, John went in for surgery to remove what they thought was a hernia in his groin. They found out when they were in there it wasn't a hernia it was a tumor. He was diagnosed with Leiomyosarcoma Cancer. He had several surgeries to remove the tumor and the artery it was attached too. He has had cramping and circulation problems ever since. They routinely did CAT scans to see if it was going to metastasize in different locations. In 2019 spots were found growing in one of his lungs. John went through a very rough round of chemo that whole summer. After the growth of those spots subsided he went in for more routine CAT scans and they found a differnt growth in the other lung. John and his wife Belladonna were informed on Christmas Eve 2020 there was more chemo to be done because those spots were growing. He has been going through another round of rough chemo for the past 3 months. John had another scan done last week to see if the growths were shrinking and they found a new growth in his groin area. The scan only caught part of it so he is going in for another scan to see what exactly that new growth is. The lung growths are metastasized from the orginal tumor.
Leiomyosarcoma is a rare type of cancer that effects smooth muscle tissue. These tumors are most common in the abdomen, but can occur anywhere in the body. Other common sites include blood vessels and skin. It is a type of sarcoma. It spreads through the blood stream and can affect the lungs, liver, blood vessels, or any other soft tissue in the body. The exact cause of leiomyosarcoma is not known, although genetic and environmental factors appear to be involved.
Each chemo session that John undergoes cost in excess of $8000.00. Insurance covers all but $1900.00 of that. When you multiple that by the 5 sessions that John has had to undergo he is $10,000.00 out of pocket of which he does not have. That cost compiled with the medication he has to take is adding up and compounding daily.
I would like to implore those that know John and those that don't be generous in helping our dear friend.
We are currently in the process of also putting together a poker run for John to help raise some money on May 22nd. Stay tuned for details.
Thank you and God Bless!
