Emergency Surgery Costs

Maybe you wouldn't mind sharing this? In deep and humble thankfulness...

As some may know, I recently had emergency surgery due to a rare condition known as Arterial Thoracic Outlet Syndrome. This was caused by an extra rib I was born with that had grown and fused with my first rib, and my clavicle, on the left side. Essentially this created a 'cage of pressure' and an aneurysm that was throwing out blood clots into my left arm, causing me to lose the ability to use it. I almost lost my arm, or worse. It also caused masses of scar tissue in my brachial plexus nerves, which took the surgeons hours to attempt to extricate. They had to create a bypass out of goretex for my artery, and remove the aneurysm.

The surgery helped and I am in recovery (since two weeks), but now I do not know what to do to pay the medical bills. My insurance covered most of it, but I still owe about $3000, so far – the bills keep coming in!!! There are also a lot of extra recovery related expenses that are simply not covered by insurance. I wish we had nationalized health care in the USA. Maybe friends in Europe would have compassion for this, or might be able to help? Or those in the USA who can afford even something small? Every little bit would count.

I am raising my nine year old son, and have all the usual expenses, so this is so hard. My salary is cut back since I am on medical leave, and we lived pay check to pay check already. It's embarrassing asking, because no one likes a beggar. But I am so tired of setbacks and this is a big one. Especially since I have nothing to fall back on, car payments, and loads of student debt already. So some of the donations may go towards these things, short term only, until I am back to work.

Before going on medical leave I have been work as a low paid community mental health counselor for children and families, but now I cannot work for a few months at least, depending on how my bones, arteries and nerves heal, and when I return to work it will be part time, to avoid driving too much which exacerbates the residual pain (I may be left with chronic nerve pain for life). I will attempt to build back to full time, but it may take awhile.

Again, every little bit helps.

Thank You So Much!
