Support Jennifer's Stroke Recovery Journey

Hello everyone, let me introduce myself and my wife. My name is Bradley Fish and my wife is Jennifer Lucas. On the morning of February 19, 2025, I received a life-changing message. It was from my wife, Jennifer, but it was broken and didn't really make sense. I decided that I should call her to see what was going on. She answered, but the woman on the other end of the call wasn't my wife. Her speech was severely slurred but she was able to tell me to go to the hospital and that the police and paramedics were at my house with her.

That is all I knew at that moment. I met her at the hospital, actually arriving a good 10 minutes ahead of the ambulance. Once I saw my wife, I was instantly scared and horrified. I pleaded to the attending doctor and she got the treatment she urgently needed at that moment. My wife Jennifer, 43 years old, had suffered a massive and very major stroke. Her life was quite literally on the line and in the hands of the doctors treating her. I had never been so scared as I was in that moment.

Once a bright and shining star, now barely able to speak. Her beautiful face replaced by a face of fear and confusion.

Jennifer received the clot buster, TNK, within the first 4-hour time frame and most of the effects of the stroke were reversed. However, there are some that remain and some that did not present until she was in a specific situation.

After 3 hospitals and nearly a week in ICU, she was allowed to return home. What I didn't completely understand is that someone has to be with her around the clock and her insurance can't get us any help for 6 months. By then, she'll be okay to be alone but right now I can't take any more time off work and we can't afford to hire the help she needs out of pocket so I can return to work.

That's where the donations come in. The money will be used to hire someone to take care of her while I'm working. They will make sure she takes her meds, gets to her doctor's appointments, and is safe while I am away.

She also can't ride in a car for extended periods of time. Her insurance does not cover any neurosurgeons in the area. The only ones they cover that have a high rating are in Indianapolis. That's about a 2-hour drive if the traffic is good. We recently went and saw a highly rated neurosurgeon at UC in Cincinnati, which is just under an hour's drive. We're going to have to pay for that doctor out of pocket. We will be getting a bill any time for her visit and all follow-up visits and any medication that he orders for her as well because her insurance won't pay for medication that is prescribed by an out-of-network doctor.

This is real life, it was unexpected, and I'm struggling to get her the care she needs while trying to work as well. Thank you all for any help you can give.
