The Back Story......

Denise and her son Casey are closer than most mothers and sons. That's in part because Casey has been caring for his mom since he was in middle school. When Denise was a child she lost her dad from ALS. Her mom died from cancer when she was in her early twenties. There is little family left. Denise was diagnosed with cancer when Casey was 14 years old. Treatment brought more time but also disability and pain. She had multiple radiation and chemo treatments that were largely unsuccessful. She had a heart attack at 54. Her hair fell out and when it grew back, Casey colored it the color she always loved. He cooked for her, took her to her cancer treatments, waited for hours while the chemotherapy infused, provided her personal care and ran their small household. He cared for their beloved German Shepherds Joey and Dante. Through it all Casey was there.

Today.....

Despite hoping and praying, Denise continued to slowly decline. Today at 57, she is on hospice. Casey is still caring for her 24 hours a day. The German Shepherds died and have been replaced by the world's sweetest PlottHound/Lab mix Chloe. The difference? Denise, who's thyroid cancer has spread to her bones and brain, can no longer be left alone. She is weak and frail, sleeping most of her days. She needs medications around the clock. She is unable to bath, dress or feed herself. Casey is exhausted. He's sad and scared. He can't wrap his head around a life without his mom. He can't be awake all day and then all night making sure she is safe and not in pain.

Where You Can Help.....

Insurance doesn't cover the kind of round the clock, custodial care Denise needs. Casey can't be awake all night, every night. Donations to this Go Fund Me will be used to pay for overnight custodial care. A nursing home is her only other option. Because of Covid-19, Casey will not be able to be with her and Chloe will be kept away. They have been together, just the two of them, forever. They can't be separated now. Denise deserves to be comfortable for however long she has and Casey needs to rest. Her cancer is progressing slowly, her needs are immediate.
