At 18, I was diagnosed with PKD, and shortly after lost my father (aged 46) to this disease.
Polycystic kidney disease (PKD) is a genetic disease (passed from an affected parent to their child) causing uncontrolled growth of cysts in the kidney eventually leading to kidney failure. It affects all racial and ethnic groups equally.
This year, I am turning 46. My kidney function is steadily declining, but I am forever grateful for each day I am provided and the incredible support of my family.
For my 46th birthday, I would like to attend the PKD Conference in San Diego, California. This experience will allow me the opportunity to connect with others with PKD, while learning more about the disease, medical advances, and healthy kidney care in a new city (I am determined to travel as much as I can, while I can).
I am asking for help to get me there (airfare, hotel and conference registration)!
