Hello All,
I'm embarrassed but can't think of any alternatives and a friend suggested I try this.
On March 28th, my car was stolen. I'm a single mother with a very limited income. I've reported the car and still there's been no update and I needed a car immediately. I was able to gather up $1195 for a down payment on a car. I did have to get financing but it's ok--I got insurance, it's covered under a warranty... I can bring it back if it doesn't work out or so I thought. Not even 12 hours of owning the vehicle, the check engine light goes on. I go directly to AutoZone to get the code looked at. I call my warranty company to get the name of a garage within their network. Lots of back and forth and a 60-mile trip later, I find out it has to go to the manufacturer because the check engine issue has to do with a recall.
I take the car to the manufacturer on 4/7 to be picked up 4/11. The car is being held hostage essentially because they're claiming I approved work not covered by the warranty and I owe money. Money I definitely do not have. I've borrowed money from every place I can, taken out personal loans, or owe money somewhere just for the down payment. I am tapped. I can barely afford to feed myself and am taking a bus to work (when I can afford it). The only way to get my car is to pay the $1541 for the repairs or get a co-signer and place down 10%. I have been unsuccessful in finding a co-signer. I can't finance the payments with the manufacturer since I'm already financing the car with the seller. It will take a couple of months to save up $1541 to get the car in addition to making payments on it, while it's not even in my possession. Not to mention the loans needing to be paid back. I need help. I can't get my kid back and forth to school, I can't afford to feed myself. I've reached out to lawyers about this but due to the year the car was made they won't even do a consultation. I am lost and dont know what to do... so here I am asking for help.
