My little grandson Owen has a very serious cancer….High Risk MDS to be specific, and will be receiving a bone marrow (stem cell) transplant soon. He already made it thru several rounds of chemo so far, despite having some very unpleasant and scary side effects. He has been a real trooper and I love him dearly. Unfortunately I am a long distance Granny because I live in PA and he is in CA and being cared for at CHLA.
But, he only just turned 3 along with his identical twin brother Jacob. Owen needs the transplant to survive because he has a mutated gene that causes his marrow to malfunction and not produce white and red blood cells properly.
His parents, my daughter Kendra and Brendan (pictured above at a chemo treatment) have been stretched to the limit, taking turns being with Owen in the hospital and Jacob at home. Not an easy task, along with working besides. And at such a young age, the twins really don't understand why they have to be separated and that Owen is sick. Since the onset of Covid the boys have been constant companions and are best buddies.
As you can imagine, the costs of cancer treatments are very high and Owen’s parents will need help to meet all the insurance co-pays and deductibles and still pay their normal household bills and mortgage. They will be reduced from two incomes to just one, which adds even more stress than they already bear. And Owen’s treatment and recovery will be lengthy.
If you find it in your heart to help, any donation you can give would be very appreciated to assist with the big expenses that will be looming over them soon. Most importantly, we want Owen to survive all this and be cured so he and his twin brother Jacob can go back to what is normal for them…..being best buddies!
