Saving Sadie

Meet Sadie. A crafty and creative 13 year old girl who lives in Bowling Green, Kentucky with her mother, Joy. For a few years of her life she lived in Cedar Rapids, Iowa with her mother and her older brother, Austin.
On July 29, 2015, while Sadie was with her best friend, Kenzie (pictured above with Sadie in the hospital bed) celebrating Kenzie's birthday, they noticed a large lump that had just showed up on the side of Sadie's neck. Not only was this lump on the outside, but was also on the inside of her throat. After two trips to the emergency room and a CT Scan that showed it was a swollen lymph node, we didn't have the answers we wanted. By this point, the lump on her neck was getting bigger and was beginning to severely restrict her airway. On September 22, 2015, Sadie was seen by an ear, nose, and throat specialist. When the doctor took one look at her, he knew it was Lymphoma. Immediately, he scheduled her to have her tonsils removed so that her airway would be more open. The doctor also did a biopsy on the lump.
After the surgery was done, the doctor talked to us and told us that, in fact, it was cancer. An extensive biopsy is being done and will be sent off to Vanderbilt in Nashville, Tennessee. Results as to exactly what kind of cancer Sadie has will be in by Friday, September 25, 2015.
Joy was recently laid off from her job and is Sadie's sole caregiver and has played mother and father since she was born. Austin, her older brother, is currently in Iowa trying to plan his next step to get back to his little sisters side.
This page is being set up to help relieve some of the stress off of their lives as to how they will pay their bills along with travel expenses to get back and forth to Vanderbilt. This will help them take the worry off of the financial aspect so they can just focus on saving Sadie.
