My sister’s beloved dachshund, Winston, suddenly lost the use of his back legs and was rushed into emergency surgery for a herniated disc, The vets discovered a spinal injury with swelling and a small tear in his spinal cord — but they were able to operate in time to give him a fighting chance at walking again.

Right now, Winston is staying at the vet hospital in Hobart where he’s receiving 24/7 care, pain management, and rehabilitation support. The cost of his stay is around $1,000 a day, and he’ll need to remain there for several days to ensure the best chance at recovery. The total costs have quickly become overwhelming, but we refuse to give up on him.

Anyone who knows Winston knows how full of love and personality he is. He’s a little sausage dog who brings smiles wherever he goes, and he deserves every chance to get back on his feet (or paws ).
