Because of my previous Japanese experience, I applied in December to the 67th annual Japan-America Student Conference, and in January I learned that I had been accepted. This highly competitive program selects sixty-two college students from across the United States and Japan to meet on Japanese soil for one month to discuss global social issues and international diplomacy. The conference also focuses its mission on promoting peace through understanding.
At the Japan- America Student Conference, I will present a paper concerning existing and unfolding educational approaches. The content of my paper will concern the positive and negative aspects of the Japanese and American education systems. This information will be presented so that best techniques used abroad can be integrated into these other cultures and academic systems to improve the quality of education. In addition to my presentation, I will form a roundtable with several other students to discuss the future of education and its importance.
After the conference, the other students and I will be able to return to our respective nations with a greater understanding of global issues and international relations. This knowledge can help us engage our communities in global discussions. We will also emerge from the forum as citizens of the world, dedicated to leaving a lasting legacy for further generations.
