As many of you know, in 2018, Toni was diagnosed with a late stage of ovarian cancer that has metastasized to much of her organs and body.
After her diagnoses, Toni had a major debulking surgery to remove as much of the tumor as possible. This surgery, as you all can imagine, called for a very lengthy and painful recovery, not to mention the debilitating chemotherapy treatments that followed. She traveled back and forth to New York, where her doctors resided for nearly two years to complete the treatments.
In September of 2020, Toni was finally accepted as a patient at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville FL, where she continued her pain-staking battle. Chemo treatments every three weeks, general fatigue and weariness, headaches, and a condition commonly referred to as “chemobrain.” The constant worry of infection, hair loss, and nausea plagued every waking moment for her.
As soon as she feels somewhat normal, its time for another treatment.
She has been able to participate in one clinical trial thus far, though no success was found. The inclusion in other trials, has been impossible due to being disqualified for acceptance.
After several doctors, many professional opinions, pages and pages of research, and of course everyone hoping, praying, and advising, there is not much more that can be done as far as traditional medicine alone.
At the beginning of November, her doctor of 2 years told her to go home, get her affairs in order, and call hospice.
No! No! No! We as her friends and family will NOT give up!
Toni was accepted as a patient as Baptist Memorial in Jacksonville in November. She now has a new oncologist who is much more optimistic. She has encouraged Toni to seek alternative sources of medicine to aid her chemo treatments and other medications that have been prescribed.
Today, as a new year begins, I ask you to help renew hope for Toni! She is too young, vibrant, loving, giving, and too wonderful a person. Toni has a beautiful daughter, Grace and her wonderful husband Nico, a handsome teenage son, Luke, and a sweet one year old grandson, Noah, not to mention her dog Fitz. She has a ton of very loving and hopeful family and friends.
As a lifelong friend myself, I am posting this on her behalf. It has taken a long time for this to be agreed upon, so I hope that everyone reading will stop for a moment and say a prayer at the very least for my sweet friend. Also, please please pass this along by sharing or whatever means you can. Thank you so very much in advance!
As I am sure most are aware, insurances refuse to cover alternative medicines or treatments. With this being said, it is very expensive both monetarily and emotionally to undertake such treatments. We are all hoping to alleviate a bit of the tremendous expenses that Toni has at this time, so that hopefully, she may move forward with these treatments, and with help, fully recover.
This fundraiser WILL hopefully cover the cost of the necessary treatment plan...plane tickets to and from treatments and then back to her Chemo treatments in Jacksonville, rooming, any incidentals needed during this trying time. I know that it is asking a tremendous amount, but anything given truly does help.
Thank you, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for prayers and contributions.
