My husband, Ken, had a stroke in February. In an instant our lives were changed. He spent 3 weeks in the hospital, 3 months in skilled nursing, and is now in a board and care for the next 3 months. As Ken continues to recover and heal, there are several challenges in the near future to overcome both for him and for me. We will need to obtain a handicap van almost immediately since he will be graduating to outpatient therapy soon, and will need to go to several medical appointments that have been on hold for the last few months. Some modifications to our home are also necessary to accommodate him, such as reconfiguring our shower so that a rolling shower chair can be used and installing safety equipment. Other projected expenses are a Hoyer Lift, hospital bed, lift chair, and many other supplies.
