Dear Friends and Family,

The Pizarro 'ohana received devastating news that Fernando was diagnosed with sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD), a very rare and quickly progressing brain disease. Fernando was discharged from the hospital and hospice care started at the family's home in Kailua. Fernando is resting comfortably and glad to be home.

Although insurance will cover most of Fernando's medical expenses, insurance will not be able to cover private caregivers or extra medical needs. Fernando needs physical support day and night. Fernando has lost quite a bit of mobility and memory, and this will continue to decrease as his disease progresses. He needs an expert caregiver(s) who can assist the family.

Diane is also unable to give the necessary attention to work during this time so paying the bills, and making sure utilities, meals, and necessities are covered will be part of the challenge that the Pizarro family is having to face. The girls are all in school too, so support is necessary.

On behalf of the Pizarro family, this GoFundMe page has been established to assist with any medical bills not covered by insurance, provide for a caregiver, and unexpected incidentals. Fernando, Isabela, Gabriela, Amelia, and Diane are aware of the outpouring of love and support and send heartfelt thank yous back to their amazing circle of friends and family.
