My name is Amy, and I’m fundraising for my daughter, Pixie.
Pixie is a bright, funny, determined child who uses an electric wheelchair to move around independently. Due to Pixies disability she js unable to walk and relies entirely on an electric wheelchair for mobility and independence.
Her wheelchair gives her freedom that most people take for granted each day — the freedom to move, to choose, and to be part of the world around her.
But our home has multiple levels.
Pixie’s bedroom is on the lower ground floor, while our kitchen and living room — where we spend important family time every single day — are on the middle floor. Pixie does have a stair lift, but here’s the part people don’t always realise:
When she gets to the top of the stairs, she has nothing to transfer into.
Her electric wheelchair is extremely heavy and can only be used on ground floor. Wheelchair services will not provide a second chair, even though our home is split across levels. This means Pixie can’t move independently upstairs. She can’t follow the family, join in naturally, or just be where everyone else is without being carried or repositioned which is uncomfortable for her as she’s nearly 11.
Recently, Pixie asked for an upstairs electric wheelchair for her birthday.
That moment broke my heart.
Not because the request was unreasonable — but because her birthday wish was simply to be included in everyday family life.
Pixie wants to be independent. She wants to move herself and be involved. She wants to come upstairs, be in the kitchen, sit with us in the living room, be included in meal times and feel like she belongs in her own home.
We are fundraising to buy a lightweight electric wheelchair that can stay upstairs permanently. This would allow Pixie to transfer safely from her stair lift and move independently — something every child deserves.
