Pitching In for Avery: Help Her Hit Cancer Out of the Park
Donation protected
Life has thrown an unexpected and challenging curveball at Avery and her family.
What started as a routine ENT appointment has turned into a journey none of us anticipated. Avery has been diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma, a rare and aggressive cancer in her nasal cavity. While this news is hard to process, we know one thing for sure: Avery is strong, and her community is even stronger.
Avery’s Fight:
Avery’s treatment plan is still unfolding, but this is what we know. It is intense and spans several months:
- The week of December 2nd, Avery will undergo a PET CT scan to ensure the cancer hasn’t spread to any other bones.
- Starting the week of December 9th, Avery will undergo surgery to have a port placed, followed by chemotherapy.
- Her chemo schedule includes cycles of 12 weeks, alternating between shorter hospital visits and 5-day inpatient stays every three weeks.
- After these initial cycles, new scans will determine the next steps—surgery or radiation—followed by 16 more weeks of chemotherapy.
In addition to tackling her treatment, the family is taking proactive steps to preserve Avery’s fertility, which could be impacted by the chemotherapy. The process adds another layer of complexity, both emotionally and financially, but it’s an important step to keep Avery’s future options open.
How You Can Help:
While Avery and her family focus on her health, we want to help ease the financial strain that comes with this fight. Your donations will go toward:
- Medical expenses not covered by insurance.
- Travel & time off work for her treatments at Children’s Mercy.
- Fertility preservation treatments to protect Avery’s future dreams.
- A wig made from Avery’s own hair to help her adjust to losing it during chemo.
- Everyday expenses like meals and household help so her family can focus on her recovery.
Your Support Matters:
Avery has shown incredible strength and courage, and she is deeply leaning into her faith as she faces this challenge. Her unwavering trust in God’s plan and her belief in His goodness are a source of inspiration to all who know her. Even the strongest and bravest need support, though, and no one should have to face this alone. Whether you donate, share this page, or keep her and her family in your prayers, every act of kindness makes a difference.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for standing with Avery and her family during this time.
