Pistachio Claudia Little Cat is a stray that my neighbors & I have been feeding for the last few months. She has lived for many years near Frog Park in Oakland. At some point in her life, someone cared enough about her to have her spayed. She has a faint eartip on her right ear. Around midday on April 6th, she was hit by a car along Claremont Ave. She was found hiding under a car by my neighbor Michaela. She was dazed, disoriented and bleeding from her snout. Michaela was able to get her into a carrier and took her to OakVet ER for treatment. She also texted me and I took responsibility for her vet care.
Miraculously, she did not have any major trauma, only a fracture to her upper mandible and soft tissue damage to her face. Pistachio received some drugs, fluids, x-rays, and had blood work done and was released to me later that night.
Pistachio is currently recovering in my breakfast nook. We don't know her precise history. My neighbor, Carr, has been leaving food for her for almost a year and says Pistachio - who she named "Claudia" - slept in a nook under their patio most nights. She also noticed that Pistachio's hearing declined a lot over the last year. We all believe she is deaf and that this likely contributed to her accident. We are hoping that her recovery will acclimate her to indoor life because she can't be released back outside.
Folks have asked to contribute to her medical bills, so I created this Go Fund Me. Pistachio's ER bill was $1700, so that's the amount I'm hoping to get help covering. She has a follow-up visit scheduled with my vet at Cheshire Cat Clinic on Friday. Anything over $1700 will used for her follow-up vet visits and medications. Anything that is not needed to cover her vet care will be donated to Cat Town.
