Pirate in need of a new leg
Donation protected
My name is Terry Shonk and my friend, Don, needs a new prosthetic leg. We met at Walmart looking for dog food and hit it off. We have been together for 2 1/2 years. He helped me get through my youngest daughter's passing away last year and I would like to do something to show my love and gratitude. His new prosthetic is very
costly and he doesn't have the funds to cover the cost.
My friend is a selfless person who tragically lost his left leg to cancer years ago.
He has a job with valuable repair skills. He is a hard-working man but does not have the means to obtain a new prosthesis. His present prosthetic is 10 years old and is very unreliable. He has difficulty walking and maintaining balance.
Despite the tragedies of cancer, the amputation of his leg, and his son, born with cerebral palsy, he is a really fun, upbeat, happy person.
He keeps house for a family of three, including his elderly father and son. He does all of the shopping preparing meals, picking up prescriptions, and taking loved ones to doctors or hospitals when he isn’t on his feet at his job. He also cares for his mother and his daughter and her three children. On the weekends, he loves to entertain his grandchildren outdoors. The youngest one has been diagnosed as autistic.
He takes care of his lawn in the summer and shovels snow from his driveway in winter. I am afraid his current prosthetic will give out and he will be hurt and unable to provide for his family. A new prosthetic will give him stability and confidence to not fall, so he can continue to be the primary caregiver to so many.
He is a very loving father, grandfather, and friend. I’d like to support him and give him the care HE needs. It would cost him $14,000 for a new prosthetic after Medicare pays its share. We all know what a selfless caring person Don is, so let’s show him some love in return. We can pull together to get him a new prosthetic so he can live his best life. Don gives all to everyone except himself, so let’s surprise him with the best gift- mobility and confidence in his leg.
