Pip's 2000m swim to help the children of Ukraine
Donation protected
Pip is a 6yo girl with a big heart. Since understanding a little more about what is happening in Ukraine this year, Pip asked what Christmas and the New Year will be like for those children still in Ukraine. It's not an easy question to answer to a 6yo. But with the answer, Pip asked what she could do to help while the tears tumbled down her cheeks. "Can we get some presents to them?" she asked, "they can have mine". I told her that there are some wonderful charities who are trying their best to help in Ukraine, and that we could find one and donate some money to them. Pip went to her room and got her piggy bank, and said they could have all that she has in it. All the tooth-fairy money she's saved for the 5 or 6 teeth she's lost.
Pip's recently done some impressive long-distance swims, particularly for someone of her age. I told her that her swimming had received some attention, and that maybe she could do another swim this time to raise some money that she could give to a charity who are helping the children in Ukraine this Christmas - which is celebrated both on the 25th December and the 7th January in Ukrainian custom.
So here we are. Pip has decided she will attempt to swim 80 laps continuously of a 25m indoor pool in the hope that she can raise some funds for these children. She will attempt it on the eve of her 7th birthday and her last day of Grade 1, Friday the 16th December. Rather than join her dear school friends in celebrating finishing the year, this is what Pip would rather do.
2000m is a long way to swim - it will take over an hour and Pip's never swum so far before, so there's no guarantee that Pip will be able to do it all. But knowing her, she will certainly give it a go. While nobody but herself can help her meet that goal, anyone can help her meet her goal of raising funds for the cause.
Good luck, Pip! xx
