Update 3/17/2026: Pippin is a lucky boy this St. Patrick's Day. At his recheck, his levels are up to 29 and he is regenerating. His anemia this time is regenerative and likely not related to the fall and probably immune mediated. He will stay on steroids for now and be rechecked next Wednesday. Eating/drinking/pooping well.

Update 3/14/2026: Pippin's RBC count is up to 28 and he is eating and feeling better so he's at home and discharged about a day later from the ER. We're waiting on the cbc pathologist report that should come Monday and recheck his blood at the internalist on Tuesday. We still need $2,400 to cover his bill. We are foregoing repeat imagining and going straight to steroid treatment in hopes his immune system can remake red blood cells. We won't know the chronic reason why. It could be a bone marrow issue or cancer or something else. But the treatment is more or less the same so we've started the steroids.

Update 3/13/2026: Pippin is hospitalization and undergoing a blood transfusion. Every dollar helps. His anemia remains a mystery as his kidney values have not changed from 7 months ago.

[Important Update 11/13 ] Pippin had his bloodwork rechecked by his internalist on 11/8 at BluePearl Philly and we're happy to report that his anemia is stable at the low end of normal and his kidney values slightly improved and remain early stage. At this time, his general vet does not recommend dental cleaning and surgery because of his heart and kidneys. They also detected a heart murmur with no additional action needed as he's already had an echocardigram and these sometimes also go away.

As he's in a good spot, his internalist recommends a recheck in Feb/March of next year. He's fully transitioned to kidney food. Right now, we're focusing on weight loss for him, which will help everything. He's 18.3 pounds with the goal of 14.

Any additional contributions will go toward the thousands in out of pocket we have paid for him including prior vet bills, RX food, and his ongoing medications for hypertension and arthritis. We are also raising funds for his next internalist visit, which will be another $415. Pippin appreciates everything everybody is doing for him!

Update: Sept 24 * Pippin had an ultrasound, chest X-rays and a pathologist revew of his bloodwork done last Tues at Art City under mild sedation. Thanks to your donations, we were able to cover about 1/3 of the bill with them with the total about $1500. We're leaving this open for any additional donations to help with his bill. So far the ultrasound showed mild GI and pancreas inflammation but nothing major. No fine needles were needed. The chest X-rays just show mild arthritis in his elbows. Unfortunately the pathologist's report for his CBC work could not identify the cause of his anemia and it's worsened. We've ordered an additional anemia PCR panel (extra $197) in the meantime, which was negative for parasites/bacteria and he saw an internalist today for additional bloodwork and consult (another $630). Any further funds here will go toward his internalist vet visit, potential further diagnostics and treatment. We're currently waiting for updated blood results.

We rescued beloved last cat of East Falls community leader Carolyn Card Sutton back in July, Pippin, who has been a delightful addition to the household. He was at ACCT with no other interest and he needed to get out of the shelter as he wasn't doing well. He lost his owner. His household. And was no longer with his cat siblings. He needed a loving home and got it.

We knew he needed a teeth cleaning, but upon further investigation at my vet, what he actually needs is dental surgery with at least 2 teeth pulled. However, the vet does not advise doing the surgery right now because Pippin has mild anemia that needs further diagnostics prior to surgery to rule out other causes aside from his mouth.

Your funds will go directly toward helping us pay for his:

⚫ Any possible items to rule out cancer such as fine needle aspiration or cytology

Please help us raise funds to help further get Pippin the diagnostics and care he needs to then help him get the dental surgery he badly needs! We've already committed a lot to him solo including over $900 to see a cardiologist to make sure he could even do dental surgery (he can but just not at a free low cost clinic!) and over $700 in other medical expenses including bloodwork and medication. Every little bit goes to helping Pippin directly! He goes in Tuesday, so every bit helps get him to what he really needs: dental surgery.
