Update 3/17/2026: Pippin is a lucky boy this St. Patrick's Day. At his recheck, his levels are up to 29 and he is regenerating. His anemia this time is regenerative and likely not related to the fall and probably immune mediated. He will stay on steroids for now and be rechecked next Wednesday. Eating/drinking/pooping well.

Update 3/14/2026: Pippin's RBC count is up to 28 and he is eating and feeling better so he's at home and discharged about a day later from the ER. We're waiting on the cbc pathologist report that should come Monday and recheck his blood at the internalist on Tuesday. We still need $2,400 to cover his bill. We are foregoing repeat imagining and going straight to steroid treatment in hopes his immune system can remake red blood cells. We won't know the chronic reason why. It could be a bone marrow issue or cancer or something else. But the treatment is more or less the same so we've started the steroids.

Update 3/13/2026: Pippin is hospitalization and undergoing a blood transfusion. Every dollar helps. His anemia remains a mystery as his kidney values have not changed from 7 months ago.

[Important Update 11/13 ] Pippin had his bloodwork rechecked by his internalist on 11/8 at BluePearl Philly and we're happy to report that his anemia is stable at the low end of normal and his kidney values slightly improved and remain early stage. At this time, his general vet does not recommend dental cleaning and surgery because of his heart and kidneys. They also detected a heart murmur with no additional action needed as he's already had an echocardigram and these sometimes also go away.

As he's in a good spot, his internalist recommends a recheck in Feb/March of next year. He's fully transitioned to kidney food. Right now, we're focusing on weight loss for him, which will help everything. He's 18.3 pounds with the goal of 14.

Any additional contributions will go toward the thousands in out of pocket we have paid for him including prior vet bills, RX food, and his ongoing medications for hypertension and arthritis. We are also raising funds for his next internalist visit, which will be another $415. Pippin appreciates everything everybody is doing for him!

[Important Update 9/29 ] Unfortunately we've had to pause Pippin's original need, which was dental surgery on Oct 13 because he had worsening anemia that has since resolved after we were referred to an internalist at Blue Pearl Philly. His doctor is attributing this to being caused by chronic kidney disease at this time.

Once he gets rechecked at the internalist on Nov. 8, we will reevaluate his dental need again. In the meantime, Pippin's chronic kidney disease has since progressed from July from stage 1 to stage 2. We are currently waiting on a urine analysis and culture to see if a UTI caused the worsening. Otherwise, he is going back for a recheck of his blood on Nov. 8 and we will go from there. In the meantime, he is enjoying some new samples of different kidney diets to try.

I will provide updates when I can. For now he is eating/drinking just fine with good quality of life. Cats can live many years with stage 2 chronic kidney disease and we are hopeful this is the case.

As we can see visit, his visit is a range but we need to reach the high end. If Pippin reaches his goal, any extra funds will go toward his ultrasound/x-ray/pathologist review of CBC expenses that were over $1400 from mid September or his dental surgery if he is allowed to resume that.

Pippin needs YOUR HELP in raising at least $2,500!

When I heard Pippin, the last cat of East Falls community leader Carolyn Card Sutton (who passed away this summer, leaving behind her 3 cats in limbo) needed a home, I stepped up to help. Why not give back to someone who gave so much to others and her community? Pippin had no other interest at ACCT, the local open intake city shelter. Aside from needing some teeth cleaned and a loving home, he didn't appear to have any major issues.

We were even told by Providence Animal Center that he could have his teeth cleaned complimentary thanks to a grant.

Once we took him to my local vet and conducted further testing, they found he had an elevated cardiac marker due to hypertension. Because of mild heart disease, he needs careful monitoring during anesthesia, which the low-cost high-volume clinic cannot provide.

Pippin needs your help because he needs more than just a cleaning. He needs at least 2 teeth pulled and special monitoring under anesthesia because of his mild heart disease during the procedure. Pippin lost his owner, his cat siblings, and his home in a short amount of time. Let's help him regain his health like Carolyn would have wanted.

Adam and I have already committed $3k for his care over the last 2 months including intake, an echocardiogram at a cardiologist, and an ultrasound and chest x-rays to get him to this point.
