Piper's Hope: Tornado Pet Rescue Fund
Donation protected
Hi, I’m Rhonda Payton Boyer—retired nurse, author, and lifelong dog lover from Southeast Missouri.
In the wake of the devastating tornado that recently hit our region, I’ve witnessed incredible compassion rising from the rubble—not just for people, but for the animals left behind.
Just today, the story of Piper, a tiny white Shih Tzu, was featured on The Weather Channel. Piper was ripped from her mommy’s arms when their camper was thrown by the storm during a camping trip in Southeast Missouri. Her parents survived with minor injuries, but Piper ran off, terrified and alone. She had just worn a sweet green dress and matching bows for St. Patrick’s Day, becoming a beacon of hope in the middle of heartbreak.
Thanks to the incredible efforts of local rescuers, several other animals have already been saved:
A malnourished momma dog with five tiny puppies
The skin-and-bones father dog
A young pup under a year old with a tick-borne illness and high fever
These animals are now in the care of individual rescuers who stepped up without hesitation. I’m helping behind the scenes—coordinating support, sharing their stories, and raising the funds needed for food, supplies, and medical care.
And kindness continues to show up in extraordinary ways.
While at Walmart in Poplar Bluff, I was approached by a woman I met through the Fisher House in St. Louis. Her husband is battling brain cancer, and their roof—just completed the day of the tornado—was torn off during the storm. They live just outside Ellsinore, another town hit hard. In the midst of their own tragedy, she handed me $200 to give to the drone team helping to locate lost animals.
That donation has already made it to the team—and it’s fueling their continued efforts to bring lost pets home.
Why I’m Fundraising
My husband Bob and I fostered over 350 puppies in just 18 months, working with three dedicated rescue organizations. We’ve spent our lives loving and caring for animals and people alike. I’m also a children’s book author who shares messages of faith, joy, and kindness—but right now, my heart is focused on helping these animals through this storm.
This fundraiser will provide:
Veterinary care
Medications and recovery supplies
Food, bedding, and crates
Support for the rescuers giving these animals shelter and safety
You’ll see regular updates and photos so you know exactly how your donation is helping. And if you have any questions, please reach out. I’d love to share more.
Your support turns heartbreak into healing. Thank you for being part of this miracle.
With all my heart,
