Piper Peepers medical help
I hate to ask for help during these hard times for everyone but I don’t know what else to do.
I am a single mom with four kids and many furbabies. My own and fosters... I am still working during this pandemic doing 3rd shift stocking and child care but my vet bills are mounting so high. As many of you know I have been taken Piper (our kitten “momma”) to the vet over and over in the last week and a half to find out what is wrong with her. As of yet we have had no luck in getting a definitive answer and she took a very bad turn for the worse tonight. By the time I got her to an emergency vet she had no blood pressure and they believe she was going into shock. They have stabilized her and are keeping her for the night. They are transferring her to neurology in the morning for an MRI, testing spinal fluid and doing many other tests and cultures.
Here is a run down the best I can give it....
3/13 she had an accident in the house, which she never does, and she had a lot of blood in her urine. I took her to Bradley Animal Hospital and they did a urinalysis and sent her home on cephalexin and pain meds. (Will try and attach the results)
3/14 she wasn’t moving much and couldn’t get in my car. I took her back into the vet and they a blood tests and x-rays to try and see what was going on. She also had a slight tick going on with her right eye.The vet thought maybe it could an autoimmune issue so took her off the pain meds. Gave her a steroid shot and sent me home with a copy of her tests and her x-rays in case we ended up in the ER over the weekend.
She was looking better and seemed to be getting back to normal until she had another accident inside with some blood in her urine again 3/23.
3/23 I take her back to the vet but the previous who was seeing her was not in. New vet told me she suspected pyometra and to take her to Mokena emergency vet and have her spayed ASAP. I asked about pyometra in my previous visits and it didn’t appear to be pyometra to the other vet. It didn’t make sense to me since the blood was in her urine not discharge.
Spoke with another vet who also didn’t think pyometra and would see her but couldn’t preform an ultrasound which she needed.
3/23 I took her to Midwest animal hospital and they did an Ultrasound, urine culture, repeat blood work, blood culture and a pelvic exam. They said the lining of her bladder was thickened and suspected cystitis. Sent her home on Enrofloxacin. I gave it to her with her dinner and she ate just fine and seemedok.
3/24 I got home from work and her beautiful face was not in the window as it always is when she hears me pull up. She had a lot of drooling going on and didn’t seem right. Vet from Midwest called with the results of some tests, again all seeming ok but said I could bring her in again because of how she was acting.
3/24 brought her back in for the excessive drooling and she seemed unsteady on her feet and wasn’t looking at me when I called her name but looking past me. She also wasn’t drinking so I was syringing water into her. They suspected that she had a very upset stomach because the meds and gave her an injection of cerenia to calm her stomach and sub-q fluids. Sent me home with cerenia to give her later to help with her stomach
at this point I had been up for 2 days. I took a nap and when I woke up I asked Piper if she wanted to to potty. She tried to get up but could only lift her head and look at me and her legs went up in the air.
I called Mokena emergency vet and they said they couldn’t really help me with anything but stabilizing her as they would do everything the vets had already done. So they suggested U of I Champaign IL ER. I rushed her there and by the time I got her there she had no blood pressure and they believe she was going into shock. They were able to stabilize her but they said she needs an MRI and much more testing done. When they stand her on her knuckles of her back feet she won’t correct them.
I have to leave my baby behind in the best place possible for her. They are saying the bill will be around $3,000 and I have over $1,000 in vet bills for all the previous tests that they have done.
Piper is the sweetest most loving girl. Momma to all the foster kittens I bring in and great with all kids, cats, dogs of all sizes and people.... she LOVES people. I can’t stand to see her suffering and I am praying with everything I have that they can find an answer and help my sweet girl.....
Piper means the world to me and my children and we will be forever grateful for any and all help we can get during this hard time.
