Over the past year, students in the PINKrov program have moved beyond classroom learning and into real-world underwater robotics, engineering, and exploration connected to Lake Michigan. Through partnerships with Dr. Ashley Lemke at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee and industry leaders including Cerulean Sonar, Blue Robotics, GoPro, Dead Calm Seas Marine Services, and the Generac Foundation, students are designing, building, and operating a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) capable of supporting freshwater science, underwater exploration, sonar imaging, and future research projects.
Today, we are seeking support for the next phase of the project. Thanks to an industry partnership, PINKrov has been offered a professional 125-meter (410-foot) tether system at no cost. To fully utilize this opportunity, we are raising funds to purchase the remaining surface power components needed for safe, professional open-water operations. This investment will allow students to conduct environmental investigations, explore underwater archaeology and freshwater science, work with professional-grade technology, and gain authentic STEM experiences that connect classroom learning to future careers.
PINKrov is about more than robotics—it is about empowering students to become explorers, problem-solvers, and innovators.
