Pink Violet: A Short Film with a New Vintage Look
Donation protected
We are proud to introduce our newest project- the short film “Pink Violet”, recreating a long-lost look that Technicolor developed in 1919. Only 37 films were ever produced in this format, ranging from 1922 to 1935- and most have since been lost. But more on that later…
Our 1930s period short film looks like nothing made in the modern era of filmmaking, digitally recreating “Technicolor 2-Strip”, wrapped shooting in December of 2024. We are excited to raise money to help us finish the post-production process, subsidize our future film festival fees, and get it out into the world.
Phil Warren, the cinematographer for “Pink Violet,” invented a brand new color processing technology that uses a mathematically accurate color model to make our digital footage match the extraordinary color of Technicolor two-strip - with a degree of accuracy that has never been achieved before. He did this with the support of Technicolor and Eastman Kodak, and will be writing up this exploration to be published in the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) Journal.
In light of Technicolor’s closure, our little film has taken on new meaning - it’ll be honoring their innovative legacy. Now all that’s left to do is post-production: editing, sound, score, and visual effects. Then, we can take this film to festivals all over the world.
No raffles, sweepstakes, giveaways, or promotions are offered in exchange for any donations made through GoFundMe. For compliance with certain festival requirements and professional events, donors will be acknowledged in the credits of the film. Please message us to be omitted or to clarify how you are listed.
