Pine Ridge Indian Reservation
Donation protected
Positioned on the edge of the badlands and stretching across the great prairies of South Dakota lies Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. Lying exposed and practically forgotten on 3,468.85 square miles of wilderness (only 84,000 acres of land are suitable for agriculture), the Oglola Lakota Indians, also known as the Oglola Soux, relentlessly battle not only the extreme weather conditions, but addiction, poverty, and broken promises. Throughout the history of America these beautiful yet discounted tribes have experienced generations of rejection, however, we believe more than ever that we must invest our time, love, and resources into seeing these forgotten people restored. Rich in culture and tradition with a profound respect for the earth and our Creator, these Tribes are not only a part of America’s past but an absolute necessity for its future.
I am extremely excited, humbled, and honored to announce that this May I will be embarking, alongside Hide & Hunter, on our newest outreach focusing on the restoration of our beloved Native American Tribes. For three weeks I will be living on Pine Ridge Indian Reservation working alongside the Lakota Sioux tribe!
To our dismay, this past Friday (05/04) we received news that our main sponsor had backed out due to finances. Even though our deadline is rapidly approaching (leave May 20th), we believe God can, and will, provide funds for this life-changing outreach! Let’s put it in perspective: If each of our facebook and IG friends/followers donated just $1 we would have the total [minimum] amount of $3400 raised in no time! So, we ask for your support by first and foremost sharing/telling our story, donating not only funds but any supplies or clothing you might want to give away, and most importantly for prayer over the safety of those traveling and living on the reservation
DEADLINE: 05/18
WHAT IS OUR GOAL? To provide one life-time leather starter kit ($280) per woman
HOW MANY? There are many women and teens wanting to participate but we would love to provide kits for AT LEAST 12 students (we would love to increase the number of participants if extra funding was raised) to use for complete leatherworking training
WHAT IS OUR HOPE? To carry this mission throughout the country ministering and bringing training, resources, hope, healing, and Jesus to every tribe and reservation in need.
We CAN NOT do it with out you, so please - in any way you can - show your love and support for the Lakota Sioux tribe by donating today!
HIDE & HUNTER CONTRIBUTION:
For the next month, 20% of all sales will be specifically donated to bringing help, supplies, and restoration to the Lakotas. for every donation of $45+ you will receive a handstamped, Lakota Leather bracelet.
WHAT WILL WE BE DOING THERE?
-Teaching Lakota women the art of leatherworking in hopes of providing them with a steady, year-round means of income to support their families
-Work together to discover God's specific gifts and purposes uniquely designed for each of us
-Serve alongside Gaits to Heaven Ministry to minister to the First Nations Women and Children through the use of horses
-Lead in Bible Study and Worship services (for those who wish to attend) at horse events
-Provide education and support resources for individuals and families about alcohol and substance abuse and/or mental illness
DID YOU KNOW?
That many of our Native American Reservations are equal to that of a 3rd world country... can you believe that? In America! However, with the odds ever against them, these beautiful people perservere. They are warriors, and I am honored more than ever to have their legacy coursing through my very own veins.
Even though these tribes have been betrayed by their very own government, these people continue to protect and take pride in the very land they were run out of and murdered for. As Chief Joseph Riverwind of the Taino tribe states, "Each generation has served - from the ancient times as protectors of our people to the modern day armed forces. It is our duty to our Creator, our family clan, our people, and our country. In the military, coming in at approximately 90%, Native Americans have the highest volunteer ratio for military service compared to any other ethnic group in The USA. We have participated in every conflict and war that this country has been in, even though we weren't given the right to vote until 1942... we didn't have religious freedom in America until 1978."
NATIVE AMERICAN STATISTICS:
-1 out of every 4 Native Americans are living in poverty
-Highest unemployment rate in our country
-Highest child and alcohol abuse rate in our country
-Highest Suicide rate
-Shortest life spans
-Lowest levels of education
-Highest Drug abuse rates
