Piñata (Short Film)

Introduction
Greetings all, I am Vin (https://www.vinesism.com/) and my team and I are currently producing a short film for our final term at University - SAE Institute Brisbane. We have been working on this story since February this year and aim to wrap everything up by September.
What's the Story?
'Piñata' is a short film that centres around Jack, early 30s, who witnesses a suspicious scene unfold before him.
A blonde-haired, blue-eyed little girl is alone in a car and appears to be asking for his help. Hovering by the vehicle is a dark-skinned, tattoo-sleeved man and a fair-skinned, junkie-looking woman.
Jack gets caught up between trying to do what is right and gravely misjudging a situation.
Why are we Making it?
A year back, my director, Jorge Teran, pitched this idea for another short film project but because of our small cohort size, there were not enough people to form a crew for an extra film. However, he kept the story in his books and eventually it was green-lit to be produced as a graduation film.
This film discusses prejudice in terms of race/class by using a very simple situation - a child appears to be kidnapped, should you intervene? Sometimes, in pursuit of trying to do the right thing, we cross lines and make subconscious judgements towards people who we don't know the slightest thing about.
We've all been in these scenarios where we ask ourselves, "Am I actually a shitty person?" and being too afraid to confront that level of self-awareness, we shrug it off. Through this film, we want to tell our audience that we've all been there, we see you and we understand. Perhaps being more aware as a community can lead us down the path of mindfulness we so desire - and we want you to be a part of that.
Is It the Right Time?
For many months now, we have put off starting a fundraiser to help us with this film's production because of the escalating situation with the pandemic and the financial impact it has had on so many people.
We understand that these are trying times and we respect everyone's decisions on whether or not they'd like to monetarily contribute to this project. To us not only does every dollar count, but so does every share, just to get our message out there.
Hopefully, if the objective of our film resonates with you, you would consider chipping in whatever amount you are comfortable with. With whatever amount we raise, we will stay committed to making this film the best that it can be.
Credits
If you do end up contributing to this fundraiser, we will gladly add your name to our credits section as a special thanks for helping us make this film possible. We are very excited to head into production and deliver this film in the coming months.
We hope everyone stays safe and healthy during these times and if anyone has any questions pertaining to this film, feel free to ask us :)
