Pikes Peak State College Student Nurse Pinning
The pinning ceremony for new graduate nurses is a tradition that dates back to the 12th century, when knights who tended to the sick and injured were given a Maltese cross to wear for the aid they delivered in battle. Today, nurse pinning ceremonies are closely tied to someone who many consider the mother of modern nursing, Florence Nightingale. For her efforts in the Crimean War, she was presented with the Red Cross of St. George and shared this honor by awarding medals to her own nursing graduates. As nursing graduates of Pikes Peak State College, we wish to continue this centuries-old tradition as we go forth in our own nursing journeys.
We, future registered nurses of Colorado Springs, El Paso County, and Southern Colorado, humbly ask for donations to fund our pinning ceremony to carry on nursing tradition and celebrate our accomplishments with our loved ones.
